Personal effects can be shipped by sea, air or land. Sea shipments are most often shipped in standard steel containers. There are two standard sizes:
A 6 metre (20 foot) container which has a volume of 30 cubic metres (1050 cubic foot)
A 12 metre (40 foot) container which has a volume of 60 cubic metres (2100 cubic foot)
A 6 metre container generally accommodates a medium sized household without patio furniture and extras. A 12 metre container will normally hold a larger household.
Seafreight to most destinations in the world is cheaper than airfreight but specific advice will be given to you by our consultants.
If you choose this option, you decide when the container is shipped. The advantage is that you can plan the packing and delivery dates. If it is a direct shipment (with no storage), the container will be loaded at your residence, secured and sealed with a bolt seal and your consignment delivered in the same container to your new residence overseas.
The exception to this is where the destination Customs and/or Agricultural Authorities need to inspect the consignment. Consignments to Australia are always inspected and can, therefore, never be delivered to the new residence in the container.
Consignments which are less than a container load are shipped in one of our groupage containers. This means that your effects are shipped together with other shipments of household effects in our system which are bound for the same destination.
Biddulphs International offer a regular groupage service to the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, U.S.A. and many other countries which are popular destinations.
